Furtner lake
Furtner lake was formed from a glacial trough, which was used as a fishing lake by the 16th Century monks from St Lambrecht. Today the lake belongs to the Mariahof council and large portions of the surrounding ground has been purchased and turned into protected areas. The lake is part of Natura 2000.
Located at the lake is the Father Blasius Hanf bird research centre which has been around for 150 years, observing the flight paths over the alps. There are over 200 different bird types at this lake.
