Dürnberger marsh

The Dürnberger marsh, which is part of the Natura 2000 protected areas, is a 9000 year old testament to the vast plant and animal life that exists in this exceptional environment.

This bog, of around 9 metre depth, has pools, hollows and swamps with relics of plant life  from the ice age.The marsh is approximately 16 hectares and has peat moss of the type Sphagnum magellanicum and Sphagnum rubellum. Plant types such as cotton grass, rosemary heath, cranberry and in drier places, heather. In large areas Blueberry can be found which looks very much like blackberry. Mountain pine are prevalent on the edges of the marsh. The hazel grouse is the local bird.

A 200 m long boardwalk, with information boards, runs on the outskirts of the marsh. Included is an outlook tower which offers a nice view.
